Photoshop for fingerprints?

Hello all

I would like to know how widely photoshop (whatever version or elements) is being used for fingerprint work in any way, shape or form be it in enhancing for exhibit cards, enhancing of captured latents, courtroom presentations or anywhere else.

In our office, we're currently using version CS3 for everything from coding (tracing) for AFIS entry to enhancement to charting. I don't expect we'll get a newer version until these computers are replaced at end of life - likely around the time that CS6 or 7 would be out.

At home I have a MacBook with CS4 Extended that I've used in relationship to a workshop on charting latent prints. However the actual workshop has been given with PC's running CS4.

My agency uses MIDEO as a part of our LIMS system. Personally, I prefer Adobe Photoshop and have CS3 on my personal computer at home.

Does anyone find useful the "share screen" feature in Photoshop CS4 that George Reis was talking about in another post ? It sounds interesting to me, but I wasn't able to locate any such feature in CS3, the version of Photoshop we use.

I don't see it in my version of CS3 either. I did a quick search online and didn't see anything relating to sharing a screen being native in CS3. In fact one of the top responses was this thread - those bots are quick!

Photoshop is indeed a beneficial software being used all over for Fingerprint examinations & prints. CS4 is even better as it has more advanced features.

Photoshop is a great image editing software. I am sure it is a boon to many industries including the crime detective department.

The screen sharing feature in Photoshop did begin with CS3, so those of you (Dennis) who want to try it with that version can do so, but you'll find the feature in Bridge, under the Tools menu. Just choose Tools>Start Meeting. I'd be happy to demonstrate this feature with anyone who would like to - just drop me an e-mail off-list.

It took me a while to find "Start Meeting". I had disabled that startup script in my preferences. It looks like Adobe offers a free 15-day trial account in order to use Acrobat Connect. Is there a charge to use this feature after the trial period is up (I'm guessing yes)?

Wow! Apparently so. It looks as though a total of 15 participants may use Adobe Connect for $395 per year. If I were on a design committee to build the Hoover dam or the next space shuttle to Mars, it would be a small price to pay. But if I'm part of a "poor folks" team of government employees who are shoved in a closet in the basement of an abandoned building, with one light bulb to work by, it is unlikely my agency is going to spend that on us annually. It does look like a cool feature, though, especially for latent print examiners.

I'm surprised at that charge - I thought that this feature was free. I'm going to look into it to see why I'm confused, and if it turns out that this is a free service, I'll start a new thread.

But, there are free tools to do this anyway. I recently loaded "LogMeIn Free" on my computer to provide computer support for a relative. This is a free version, and allows me to sign in to another computer and take control - but, the user also has control, so it can be used as a screen sharing tool.

Okay - I got the word from Photoshop Product Manager, John Nack. This is a free service for CS4 users. You can connect with up to two other people using it. I didn't get a definitive answer for CS3 however.

If we're talking about Acrobat ConnectNow, then anyone can get a free subscription (at Acrobat.com) that allows them to hold a web conference with up to 3 people (the paid Premium subscriptions allow for more people as earlier indicated). ConnectNow isn't, to my knowledge, tied to Pshop or any other specific app... you just share your screen and communicate with the others in the meeting. So it can be used with CS4, CS3, CS2 or any other application for that matter. See http://www.adobe.com/acom/connectnow/

Or is this a reference to a function/service specific to Pshop?
