Question for Brits RE:Copysets

Post by claireweenie »

Hello!

I have a query regarding certified copysets requested and received from other Bureaus. My superior has asked that we try to find documentation relating to legislation regarding the storing of copysets. He seems to think that, if requested, copysets can ONLY be used for the purposes in which they were originally intended and then they must be DESTROTED. This is because if the form is later weeded then a copyset may still exist in another bureau's collection which would then be unlawful.

I have found some documentation relating to Scottish copysets - apparently they keep a record of all copysets sent out and if a form is weeded then they request the return of the copyset from whichever force(s) they were sent too.

Can anyone tell me whether:
a) It is true that copysets cannot be retained indefinately as arresstee sets can?
and
b) the whereabouts of any documents relating to the retention of copysets please?

Thanks in advance!
