Photo Printer Recommendations?

Hi All!

Any suggestions on a 5x7 photo printer that is good for printing out enlarged latent prints? I am looking to print photos not only for analysis/documentation but to also use as a training tool for a new trainee that will be starting her analysis phase soon. I have had experience with the F&F DCS printers, the Mitusbishi and Sony models that came with the system, both 5x7 printers. I really liked both but was looking for an upgrade, 600 dpi if possible.

Does anyone have experience with the DNP DS40? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/7 ... Photo.html I have also used a HiTi back in the day, not sure about their current models.

Just curious why you don't do documentation on the computer? If you are enlarging prints, you are likely scanning them in. Create a layer in PS and do your documentation on it. Save the file and once you are done with all of the prints, burn a CD or DVD and keep it in the case file.

You can scan something in, but when you go back to printing it out, you are decreasing the quality of the capture and aren't getting a great copy anyway.

Hi there! Thank you for your response. We definitely use PS for documentation. I have found it easier for trainees to hold something tangible, the enlarged photograph can be slanted to "run the ridges" and different colors of sharpies or markers can be easily used and erased on the photograph. I worked for an agency that used the Foster&Freeman DCS a little differently than most, we photographed the latent print card and printed the enlarged photo through the DCS system, it worked great for documentation and was quick and easy. Some of the tools to enhance the latent prints through the DCS worked really well too, like the black powder enhance button. Some examiners used strictly PS, some used strictly photographs through the DCS system and some used both. These photographs are no substitute for comparing under the glass , just another effective way to document and train. Reminds me of the old MP4 prints that I was trained on.
