Ernie Hamm's Index

Post by Michele »

People email me now and then to help them find articles on certain subjects. As I was looking for some articles tonight I realized that I use a source that many might not be aware of, Ernie Hamm's Index. It has over 3000 articles listed and although Ernie stopped updating it in 2009 (I think), it's still extremely useful. I asked Boyd to put it in a place so everyone can use it and he's added it to the home page of clpex, under the legacy tab.

I hope others find it as useful as I have.

And a huge THANK YOU to Ernie for all your help over the years!! (and thank you Boyd!)

Thanks for the 'plug' and thanks to Boyd for posting the 'Index'. Actually, it was once a link on CLPEX set up by Kasey years ago, but sort of wandered off over the years.

A few comments about the 'Index': I started in when I was on the Editorial Board of JFI under John Nielsen to double check or validate articles being submitted for publication and it just kept growing. I ended making entries in 2009 as I had been removed from the editorial board and was moving more and more into retirement and from active (where you received publications) to inactive (life) organizations where you do not routinely received regular issues. For those that visit the Index, I believe a value is in the comment column. There are times when a title does not give a lot of information on the content, such as an article I wrote, titled "The Rust of the Story" (a nod to Paul Harvey). The title does not indicate it deals with possible consequences when you use the 'hut' technique to improve latent prints being processed by powder applications. So, the comment column gives a brief description of what the article is addressing and you can decide if it is something you want to read.

Also, the source column will show various publications and some 'unpublished paper' references. At the time I was maintaining the file, I was in possession of the cited article/paper. Alas, in my movement to retirement, I contributed almost all of my books and papers to other agencies and most of the professional publications, miscellaneous articles and unpublished papers were given to what was the USACIL Laboratory, now the DOD Forensic Center. I do have copies of some items stored away on discs/thumb drives and would be glad to share any of interest, not very many, but some.

So, thank you Michele, because I can now refrain from jumping in on some of those posted requests because the source material I use is right there for the taking.

Take care and travel safe.

Ernie
