Fingerprint study

Post by Jason Covey »

Today's edition of the Wall Street Journal contains an article concerning a study conducted by Dr. Itiel Dror of Britain's University of Southampton.

The gist of the study: Dr. Dror provided latent prints to examiners under the pretext that the prints were the erroneous identification made by the FBI in the Madrid bombing case. The examiners were asked their opinion of the prints, which in reality were not the Madrid prints. Each examiner was actually given a print he/she had testified to previously as being ident. Several of the examiners said the prints they were shown did not match, one said they did, one said inconclusive.

Dr. Dror will present his research at the upcoming New England IAI conference in Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.
