Advice on tenprint retrieval

Hello all

For those who have not seen my recent posts on here, we are (informally) reverting to paper prints due to the fact that we do not have daily access to an AFIS terminal.

The question is this:

Our system of classification was based on the SOP that the left and right hands were split and filed separately. If we now file tenprint cards, how is it done practically to enable easy access to either left or right hand prints?

Our classification was a very rough hybrid of the Henry system and first prize would be a system which could be implemented easily.

Looks like a very basic pure Henry possibly without sub-secondary or no further extensions than sub-secondary could do the trick...

Simple, effective and searches can be done on known patterns or pattern combinations...

Any other way worth looking at?

Are you familar with the American 'NCIC' classification system? It is a 20 digit linear code (2 numbers/letters for each finger) that lends itself to relatively easy integration into both manual and computer databases and indexing systems, including separation into right & left hands.
